Taking kids fishing is fun, exciting, and they may just learn something. We'll give you a couple tips for when the fish aren't biting.
When the fish aren't biting
When you are out taking the kids fishing, you’ll be teaching them many different lessons. Of course, there’s the fishing tips, that all kids fishing should be taught, from how to tie a hook on the line, the kind of bait to use for the fish they’re trying to catch, how to reel the fish in without breaking the line, and how to properly release or prepare the fish they caught that are big enough to eat.
How about patience? When you and the kids are fishing, especially the younger ones, there had better be some action going on, or you’ll lose them fast. When you get to that point, notice we didn’t say if, try having the kids “call” the fish; “Here fishy, fishy, fishy”. It might not help the fishing, but it will entertain the kids for a while and leave them with everlasting memories.

When you take the kids fishing and are sitting by the pond, lake, or river waiting on the fish to bite, it’s usually a good idea to have with you some snacks and drinks to help make the waiting a little less “boring”. OK that should get you through the first, oh, say 30 minutes or so.
Kids fishing tackle isn’t much different from, well, the big kids fishing tackle, except that it can be smaller in size, but not in effectiveness.
If you want to make your kids fishing trip fun and exciting, take them to a pond or lake with blue gills in it. Blue gill fish usually bite well on night crawlers and pound for pound these little guys are fighters. Another great place for kids fishing is the river, especially in the “lazy days of summers”. Get some corn, field corn or sweet corn that is in the milky stage, which means when you poke your fingernail into a kernel, a white milky substance squirts out.
